„Latin American music in and out of context – from reggaeton, baile funk or dembow to hyperpop and experimental electronics, the 9th edition of the club night Šelest will focus on genres emerging from South America,“ states Heartnoize, one of the most consistent and forward-thinking music promotion collectives in Czechia. Get ready for a versatile palette of Hyperdub affiliate Lila Tirando a Violeta (we recommend you to play her amazing genre-bending set on Boiler Room x Primavera), the imaginative sonic journey of Verraco, experiments of Ida Elastic, genre-defying set by litterbin and footwork, afrobeats and much more in sets by seafur and wyxie. The 9th edition of Šelest will take place at Ankali on the 25th of October.
Verraco aka Colombian artist JP López co-founded the TraTraTrax label, dedicated to electronic music from Latin America. His last year’s EP Escándaloo, was ranked among the best releases of the year. This year’s release on the Timedance label – the EP Breathe… Godspeed, has once again received widespread acclaim from media outlets including Pitchfork’s Best New Music.
Lila Tirando a Violeta is a music producer from Uruguay who blends elements of experimental club music, ambient, reggaeton, or hyperpop – her choices are limitless. She’s recently signed with London’s notable label Hyperdub and has done custom mixes for KEXP & NTS radios as well as collaborating with artists such as Loraine James, Amnesia Scanner, Nick León, or Nicola Cruz. Her debut Limerencia was highly praised in 2020 making several end-of-the-year lists. She has performed live at renowned festivals such as Primavera Sound or Mutek.
Ida Elastic is not afraid to dig deep as you can hear at her regular Tentacity shows on Radio Punctum. Eastern dancy vibes seamlessly melt with experimental electronics, as the multimedia artist and organiser of Estrogen events immerses herself into a DJ set.
litterbin is a multi-genre producer, DJ, sound enthusiast, and hyperpop vocalist. A member of Pink Party Squad and Future Jiskří group. His work combines the maximalist sound made famous by the PC Music collective, with the slightly cheesy attitude of midwest emo bands or indie singer/songwriters, and a tint of 90s Warp label electronics nostalgia. Litterbin’s DJ sets never stick to one style and always bring surprises to the ones who want to embark on his sonic journey.
seafur is a resident of Prague’s Radio Punctum. Her sets seamlessly blend genres such as hyperpop, Afrobeats, dembow & R’n’B, kuduro, or footwork, but sometimes she also dives into experimental pop. Beyond music, she’s interested in various forms of storytelling through minimalist songs and abstract drawings, all while exploring the challenges of modern millennial life. Additionally, Seafur’s therapeutic outlet lies in her textile and screen printing work under the brand Potvora.
wyxie is a dj based in České Budějovice. She serves an extra portion of speed dembow, guaracha, or baile funk, blended with frantic deconstructed sounds, breaks, and hard dance in her sets. Expect layered rhythms, and explosive drums with faster tempos.
