Copenhagen-based Norwegian queer artist and DJ dragongirl (she/they) invites us into a fantasy world of nostalgic euphoria and unexpected turns with their newest EP dreamscape dimension, which was released via Norwegian label Sheep Chase Records. Blending gabber-infused trance with the relentless energy of EDM and hard house, dragongirl crafts soundscapes that defy expectation, balancing chaos and beauty.
The lead single, “everything will b ok,” featuring Danish hyperpop artist sonic girl (named “Denmark’s next popstar” by Soundvenue), captures dragongirl’s ability to build emotional, collaborative club moments. With pitched-up vocals and shimmering synths layered over a pounding bassline, the track offers a euphoric release that has already drawn praise from numerous music media.
dragongirl (real name Niko Ursin) says about the EP: ‘I like to play with expectations and moods, and whether it’s a track, an album or a DJ set, I always have a desire to take the listener on a journey. One of the things that attracts me most about club music is the range of emotions it can cover, and how it can both create and transform a space.’
They have already received a lot of attention throughout Europe having played some of the biggest festivals in Scandinavia including Øyafestivalen and By:Larm in Norway. Her notorious DJ sets have made her a frequent guest at Copenhagen’s finest techno club Den Anden Side, and she has appeared several times at Soul Feeder’s parties in Berlin.
More than just a stage name, dragongirl embodies a fluid, ever-shifting identity. Not a dragon, but not a girl either. She is in the midst of mutation and in constant evolution, just like her music. Their work intentionally challenges hierarchies and entrenched norms, carving out a space where queerness and fantasy merge on the dancefloor.
