Tainan-based producer and DJ Jordan (who goes under 龍) wrote us directly about his debut album. It doesn’t happen often that the music is so good that we have to release it. It is a great pleasure to announce that we are going to release Jordan’s album Seth under Swine Records. On the 13 tracks, he combined all of his inspiration, from hip-hop, dubstep, dark bass music, and created an incredible mixture of raw post-apocalyptic sonic warfare. We are releasing the first single called „Rule“. Play it loud.

How can you describe the underground music scene in Taiwan? Are you based in Taipei? Are there a lot of clubs and cultural venues where you can perform, for example?

➠ I think it has a lot of potential and is very diverse and interesting, whether it’s in live houses, clubs, or my favorite abandoned buildings and bunker scenes. In the past few years, I performed mostly in Taipei, but also in Taichung and Tainan. Last year, I turned down many performances to focus on making my music album. Yes, there are many places to perform, whether it’s live houses, clubs, abandoned buildings in the wild, temples, etc.

What about like-minded artists, producers, bands that you like or admire? Can you collaborate and talk about music with similar artists like yourself?

➠I greatly admire BENN, a veteran producer from Taiwan, who taught me a great deal about production without reservation. Taiwan has many outstanding underground electronic music artists, such as Sandy Trace, Scott Noise, Sonia Calico, Jondu, Lujiachi, Nin, F&8, Lica, Boyin, and many more. Internationally, there are Brodinski, Muqataa, Kavari, Moxina, and countless others. My favorite person to discuss music with is the guy who produced my album cover; he’s also working on his own project and is incredibly talented. I often ask him about music.

Tell us about this album. What was the central theme, idea, or inspiration behind it? Did you want to convey some specific emotions on these tracks?

➠ The feeling and imagery I wanted to convey on this album came from the movie Dune. I imagined a post-apocalyptic future and used these images to create the songs. I also really like dubstep and hip-hop rhythms, and I incorporated a lot of glitch, noise, and industrial sounds.

What audio hardware/software did you use, and why?

➠ I used Ableton Live to create it because Benn and Sandy Trace both use this software, so it was a natural choice for me.

How long have you been producing this album? Was it a long, difficult process?

➠ This album took about a year to produce. The process was more like a projection of my emotions and a source of catharsis. Thinking about it makes me feel very satisfied.

What can you tell us about Jungcore Sound System? When did it start, and what’s your main mission? Are you organizing events outside of Taipei?

➠ The sound system is expected to be completed around 2022. Our goal is to combine various music genres, including rave, experience, jungle, bass, hip hop, and more. Our members have different musical tastes, but we get along very well and appreciate and support each other musically. It’s a lot of fun, and I love them. We will be holding various performances and events throughout Taiwan

It’s a deep, energetic, heavy rhythmic album; it sounds like something that should be played in the club. Do you have Jungcore Sound System in mind while creating this project?

➠ Yes! First of all, thank you so much for your affirmation. I’m truly grateful and honored. I was working on the visuals and style of the jungcore sound system to lay the foundation for its creation, hoping to build a more complete system. We’re from Tainan, Taiwan, and my mentor in sound system creation is Archi, the owner of Formosa Sound System. I’m especially grateful to him, and we want to bring this passion and drive to Taiwan and the world.
